Falco – born in Vienna in 1957 as Johann Hölzel – was the only German-speaking artist to ever reach number one on the US Billboard charts with "Rock Me Amadeus". In February 1998, he died in an accident.

This shooting took place a few months earlier. Axl Jansen's photographs show Falco with a visual language of quiet intensity and extraordinary presence. For almost three decades, they remained hidden. Now they are coming to light.

Axl Jansen's focus is not on ostentatious staging, but on presence, posture, and the condensation of a moment. His photographs thrive on tranquility, clarity, and an intensity that needs no explanation. Particularly in this series, this creates a visual language that not only shows Falco, but makes him tangible with a rare intimacy.
